110th Observation Squadron
The 110th OS was activated at Da Nang air base in january of 1963. It was formerly known as the Première Groupe Artillerie
Observation (1st GAO). The 1st GAO was activated on 1 october 1952 at Nha Trang air base. The redesignation was
part of re-constructing the VNAF organisation when it grew with the american influx of material and an escalation of the war.
The 1st GAO flew with french built Morane-Saulnier MS 500 Criquets (which was a licence-manufacture of the german
Fieseler Fi 156 Storch) until these were replaced by american Cessna O-1A Bird Dogs.
112th Observation Squadron
Originally activated as 2nd GAO on 1 october 1952 in Nha Trang this squadron was redesignated 112th OS in january 1963. It flew
MS 500 Criquets until these were replaced by Cessna O-1A Bird Dogs.
114th Observation Squadron
Originally activated as 3rd Observation Squadron on december 1961 in Da Nang this squadron was redesignated 114th OS in
january 1963. It flew Cessna O-1A Bird Dogs. The squadron moved to Pleiku air base in late 1963 and in january 1965 it moved again,
this time to Nha Trang.
116th Observation Squadron
The 116th OS was activated at Nha Trang air base in june of 1964. In september 1965 it moved to Binh Thuy air base.
It operated Cessna O-1A Bird Dogs.
118th Observation Squadron, Bac Dau (North Star)
The 118th OS was activated at Pleiku air base in april 1971. It stayed there until the end. The 118th OS operated Cessna O-1A
Bird Dogs and Cessna U-17As and U-17Bs, As the U.S. pulled out, Cessna O-1As were one by one replaced by O-2A Skymasters. The last squadron commander was Lt. Col. Vo Y.
120th Observation Squadron
The 120th OS was activated at Da Nang air base in may of 1971. It flew Cessna O-1As and Cessna U-17As and U-17Bs.
122nd Observation Squadron
The 122nd OS was activated on 1 august 1972 at Binh Thuy air base. It operated Cessna O-1A Bird Dogs and Cessna U-17As and U-17Bs.
124th Observation Squadron
The 124th OS was activated at Bien Hoa air base, time unknown, equipment unknown. Probably Cessna O-1A Bird Dogs, Cessna U-17As and U-17Bs and maybe Cessna O-2A Skymasters.
