211th Helicopter Squadron
The VNAF's 1st Helicopter Squadron was activated at Tan Son Nhut air base in April 1956, at first without aircraft. In June 1957 the squadron received Sikorsky H-19Bs to start training. In January 1963 the 1st Helicopter Squadron was redesignated
211th helicopter Squadron. It re-equipped with Sikorsky H-34 and moved to Soc Trang. As the U.S. pulled out the squadron took over UH-1H Hueys from the americans. The 211th was last based at Binh Thuy air base.
213th Helicopter Squadron
Commissioned as the 2nd Helicopter Squadron on 1 October 1961 at Da Nang air base it was redesignated 213th Helicopter Squadron in January 1963. This squadron flew CH-34s and later UH-1H Hueys.
215th Helicopter Squadron
This squadron was activated at Bien hoa air base with H-34s. It later moved to Nha Trang and re-equipped with UH-1Ds.
217th Helicopter Squadron
On 1 May 1964 the 217th HS was activated at Da Nang air base. In July of that year it moved to Tan Son Nhut. Again, in December 1965 it was moved to Binh Thuy. It last operated from Can Tho flying with UH-1H Hueys which replaced the H-34s.
219th Helicopter Squadron
The 219th was activated at Da Nang air base in September 1967 and flew H-34s. This squadron was initiated when the 83rd SOG was disbanded. The squadron conducted special operations. It converted to UH-1Hs Hueys in December of 1971 and moved to Nha Trang. The 219th last squadron commander was Lt/Col Pham Luan Dang who resides in West Virginia now.
221st Helicopter Squadron
The 221st HS was activated at Bien Hoa air base in January 1971. It flew UH-1H Hueys which it received from the US Army's 68th AHC.
223rd Helicopter Squadron
The 223rd HS was activated at Bien Hoa in September 1969. It flew UH-1H Hueys which were turned over to them by the US Army's

225th Helicopter Squadron
The 225th HS was activated at Soc Trang air base in October 1970. It flew UH-1H Hueys which were turned over to them by the US Army's 121st AHC.
227th Helicopter Squadron
The 227th HS was activated at Soc Trang air base in November 1970. It flew UH-1H Hueys which were turned over to them by the US Army's 336th AHC.
229th Helicopter Squadron
The 229th HS was activated at Pleiku air base in December 1970. It flew UH-1H Hueys which were turned over to them by the US Army's 189th AHC.
231st Helicopter Squadron
The 231st HS was activated at Bien Hoa air base in March 1971. It flew UH-1H Hueys which were turned over to them by the US Army's 118th AHC.
233rd Helicopter Squadron
The 233rd HS was activated at Da Nang air base in January 1971. It flew UH-1H Hueys which were turned over to them by the US Army's 282nd AHC.
235th Helicopter Squadron
The 235th HS was activated at Pleiku air base in February 1971. It flew UH-1H Hueys which were turned over to them by the US Army's 170th AHC at Kontum.
237th Helicopter Squadron
The 237th HS was activated at Bien Hoa air base in September 1970. It flew CH-47A Chinooks which were turned over to them by the US Army's AHC at Phu Loi.
239th Helicopter Squadron
The 239th HS was activated at Da Nang air base in February 1972. It flew UH-1H Hueys which were turned over to them by the US Army. You can read about the final days of the 239th helicopter squadron here.
241st Helicopter Squadron
The 241st HS was activated at Phu Cat air base in May 1972. It flew CH-47A Chinooks which were turned over to them by the US Army.
243rd Helicopter Squadron
The 243rd HS was activated at Nha Trang air base in November 1971. It flew UH-1H Hueys. The squadron later moved to Phu Cat air base.
245th Helicopter Squadron
The 245th HS was activated at Bien Hoa air base in December 1971. It flew UH-1H Hueys.
247th Helicopter Squadron
The 247th HS was activated at Da Nang air base in December 1972. It flew CH-47A Chinooks.
249th Helicopter Squadron
The 249th HS was activated at Can Tho air base in December 1972. It flew CH-47A Chinooks.
251st Helicopter Squadron
The 251st HS was activated at Bien Hoa air base. It flew UH-1H Hueys.
253rd Helicopter Squadron
The 253rd HS was activated at Da Nang air base. It flew UH-1H Hueys.
255th Helicopter Squadron
The 255th HS was activated at Can tho air base. It flew UH-1H Hueys.
257th Helicopter Squadron
The 257th HS was activated at Da Nang air base. It flew UH-1H Hueys.
259th Helicopter Squadron
The 259th HS flew UH-1H Hueys. It was the VNAF's medevac (Medical Evacuation) squadron with detachments in every military region of South vietnam, on various air bases.
