Thang Le's A-1H Skyraider, A-37B Dragonfly and North Vietnamese MiG-17.
Built out-of-the-box, Thang Le managed to make these models look very accurate and appealing. The A-1H (Tamiya 1/48) depicts one of the 516th FS Skyraiders, and the A-37B (Monogram 1/48) belonged to the 520th FS. The MiG-17 is Hobbycraft's 1/48 kit. The a/c is that of one of the VPAF's aces: Nguyen van Bay.
"Just for your info, about the models if you decide to post them.
The A-37 Dragonfly, is an old Monogram kit in 1:48 scale. The shooting stars decals that came with the kit were so old and thick, I have to hand cut each and everyone of those stars to make it looks presentable. Standard SEA paint scheme. The plane is built straight out-of -the box, no add ons, and no special tools. The Monogram decals are known for being inaccurate, and poor quality, but I couldn't find any decals makers have it at the time I built it.
The A-1 Skyraider, is a Tamiya kit in 1:48 scale. Typical great quality kit from Tamiya. I can't complain about the fit, and look of the kit itself. Decals set is anothe issue. Since I wanted to mark it as VNAF in SEA camouflage scheme, I couldn't find decals for it. All decals makers have discontinued this marking. Including my best hope for from Cutting Edge decals. They have a sheet with 6 different marking for the Skyraiders, but no longer available. I gave up my search. Luckily one of the modellers, gave up his own old Monogram decals from one of his old kit. Then I got the blue band and the star and stripes... Again the decals are thick and did not do well, but I tried to get by with what I had. I made up the tail markings, with scratches, and the flag are painted on. I would not show it off at the competition, due to the inaccuracy. Beside, as long as we enjoy it, who cares? - Thang Le "
